51重口猎奇鈥檚 University Announces the Launch of Online Radio Station Falcon Fly Radio in Cooperation with 97.9 FM
First Student Show is Scheduled to Air Next Week
RALEIGH, N.C. — 51重口猎奇鈥檚 University (SAU) now has its own internet radio station. The new online station is part of the SAU tradition of leadership in the broadcast industry. 51重口猎奇鈥檚 University is one of only two historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the country that has a commercial radio and television station. Falcons Fly Radio, which originally debuted July 4, 2020 on the university website, was established with the support of alumnus and owner of Hot 97.9 FM Damian Powell. The brand new, digital online radio station provides the hottest hip hop and R&B to its listeners. The station is run by students for the students, but music fans all over the world can also tune in.
After months of organization and planning, the first student show, called 鈥淭he Blueprint鈥� will air on Monday, March 8, 2021 at 3 p.m. The show is hosted by Christina 鈥淐hrissy B鈥� Black (sophomore, communications), Cameron 鈥淐amDaDon鈥� Jackson (senior, business management), Josu茅 鈥淛efe鈥� Ortiz-Florez (freshman, undecided), Jason 鈥淛ay Boogie鈥� Parks (sophomore, communications major) and Antoinette 鈥淭oni鈥� Stancil (senior, criminal justice). The show will discuss topics related to music, sports and news from a student鈥檚 perspective.
The students will get hands on instruction from the WAUG Production Director and Audio Instructor, John Low and Damian Powell.
鈥淚 am excited about the opportunities for students to begin broadcasting careers and the opportunities for student’s families and friends to hear them when they are broadcasting online,鈥� says Powell, who also goes by the moniker 鈥淒Y Nasty.鈥� “It is an exciting time at 51重口猎奇’s University and the new Falcon Fly Radio station can be a lab for students who want to be in the radio business.鈥�
The station provides another option for music listeners. WAUG plays hip hop and R&B on Hot 97.9 FM which is rebroadcast on WAUG 750. SAU has now joined the growing list of colleges and universities that have online radio stations. To listen online, visit听
