Alumni Giving to the Annual Fund, Athletics and Scholarships Makes A Significant Impact
Alumnus, Dr. Ruben Cowart Class of 1964 and his wife, Evelyn, made a $40,000 gift to the University, following a commitment to assist his alma mater in its effort to return to, and maintain a stronger position of financial stability.
鈥淭he University is fortunate to have alumni with a heart for students and who will influence future generations. We truly appreciate the Cowart鈥檚 and their generosity,鈥� said 51重口猎奇鈥檚 University Interim President Dr. Gaddis Faulcon听Class of 1974.
Dr. Cowart, who is a retired dentist and lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army, says he鈥檚 committed to devoting his time and energy to assist 51重口猎奇鈥檚 University.
鈥淔amilies of students at historically black colleges and universities rely heavily on loans, to help pay for tuition, said Dr. Cowart.鈥� As sons and daughters of our beloved institution, it鈥檚 imperative that we commit ourselves to providing financial support on an annual basis.鈥�
Dr. Cowart founded the Syracuse Community Health Center in 1977 and served as president and chief executive officer until he retired in 2014. He is also a U.S. Army Veteran, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
In addition to the Cowart gift, the University also received gifts from Dr. Elvin R. Jones from the Class of 1967. He donated $30,000 to the annual fund and $20,000 to the Department of Athletics. Mr. Herbert Barrow from the Class of 1959 contributed $10,000 to the annual fund.
